Kodagu Resident Arrested for Cultivating Cannabis at Home in Virajpet


Authorities seized 5.5 kg of cannabis plants from the premises, following a tip-off about the illegal activity.

Virajpet: Virajpet police in Kodagu arrested a 68-year-old man from Karmadu village for illegally cultivating cannabis plants within his residential premises. The accused, identified as A.B. Muthanna, was apprehended during a special operation Virajpet police.


Authorities seized 5.5 kg of cannabis plants from the premises, following a tip-off about the illegal activity. A coordinated effort involving Virajpet Circle Inspector Anoop Madappa, Virajpet Rural Station Officer B.S. Vanishree, and their team led to the swift action.

In a statement, the police confirmed that Muthanna had been produced before the court after his arrest. Investigators are looking into the scale of the cultivation and whether the accused was involved in drug distribution networks.


The operation highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes in Kodagu district. Police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities in their localities, ensuring timely intervention to curb the menace of narcotics.
