Madikeri: In the last three months alone, more than 1,200 electricity poles have been damaged, causing significant losses for the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) in Kodagu district. The relentless monsoon season has wreaked havoc on the region's power infrastructure, with prolonged heavy rains and powerful winds severely affecting the area's electrical network, including numerous transformers and transmission lines.
The situation has been exacerbated by an acute shortage of linemen, as the current workforce is insufficient to handle the extensive repair work required.
Electricity consumers in the district have voiced their frustration, criticizing the government for not providing adequate support to CESC to facilitate swift restoration efforts. During a recent meeting of the Kodagu Development Project (KDP), a committee member highlighted the dire situation, noting that the Napoklu region has only three linemen available for duty, according to a report published in DH. CESC Executive Engineer Anitha Bai also raised concerns about the critical staff shortage, urging the government to address the issue promptly.
The combination of severe weather conditions and inadequate manpower has left many areas in Kodagu without reliable electricity, impacting daily life and local businesses. As the monsoon season continues, the demand for a robust response from both CESC and government authorities grows increasingly urgent to ensure the timely restoration of power and prevent further disruptions.
