Kodagu police arrest man accused of beheading minor girl, recover victim's severed head

Somwarpet: The Kodagu police have arrested accused for brutally murdering a minor girl in the Kumbaragadige village limits of Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu. The accused, identified as Prakash (32) from Hammiyala village in Somwarpet taluk, was apprehended on May 11, Saturday, for the heinous crime.

The victim, a minor girl, had recently passed her SSLC exam on May 9, the same day she was tragically murdered. Kodagu Superintendent of Police K Ramarajan stated that the police recovered the severed head of the victim from a spot 300 meters away from where the murder took place. "We have also recovered the weapon and the clothes with blood from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing," added Ramarajan.

The police had been conducting search operations for Prakash since late Thursday night. Acting on a tip-off that he was hiding in a forest near the village, the police managed to apprehend him.

According to reports, officials from the Women and Child Development department intervened on May 9 to halt the victim's engagement to the suspect. They successfully persuaded the parents to postpone the marriage until the girl reached the age of 18. Despite this agreement, Prakash allegedly intruded into her home later that day, abducted her, assaulted her parents, and ultimately, carried out the heinous act in an isolated area near the forest, decapitating her and absconding with her head.
