Bengaluru/Madikeri: After a scorching March, residents of Kodagu can anticipate a slight relief as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rainfall for the region in the upcoming days. According to IMD's predictions, parts of Kodagu are likely to experience light showers on April 6 and 7.

The recent update from the India Meteorological Department(IMD) sheds light on the seasonal outlook for April to June, along with rainfall and temperature projections for April. The forecast indicates below-normal rainfall for south interior Karnataka and above-normal rainfall for north interior Karnataka.

A. Prasad, a scientist at IMD Bengaluru, elaborated, stating, "South interior Karnataka is anticipated to witness below-normal rainfall, while parts of north interior Karnataka may experience above-normal rainfall." Additionally, he highlighted that the state, including Bengaluru, might encounter above-normal maximum temperatures in April.

Notably, on April 2(Tuesday), certain areas of Kodagu, particularly Napoklu, Balamavatti, and Yemmamadu in North Kodagu, received light rainfall, offering a glimpse of relief from the prevailing heat.

The expectation of rainfall comes as a respite for the residents of Kodagu, who endured sweltering conditions throughout March. As the region relies heavily on agriculture, including coffee cultivation irrigation, the timely rainfall could potentially mitigate the impact of the prolonged dry spell.

However residents argue that this light rainfall will not alleviate the challenges faced by coffee cultivation or mitigate the ongoing water scarcity in Kodagu.
