Madikeri: Ahead of New Year celebrations, the Kodagu district administration has put in place a set of guidelines to ensure that the peak tourist season passes without incidents and inconvenience to visitors or locals.
Nitin Chakki, Madikeri sub-divisional Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Director of Tourism, has issued directions to resorts and homestays across the district to strictly follow safety and monitoring measures during the festive period. As part of the guidelines, owners have been instructed to collect details of all visitors, including Aadhaar number, mobile number and vehicle registration details of both domestic and foreign tourists.
Tourism stakeholders have also been asked to clearly inform visitors about the opening and closing timings of tourist attractions to avoid late-night movement in restricted or unsafe areas. The directive makes it mandatory for homestay owners to reside in the same building, interact with tourists about their travel plans, offer appropriate guidance, and brief them on local customs and laws. This, officials said, would help prevent tourists from venturing into remote or deserted areas.
Further, all resorts and homestays must compulsorily install first-aid kits and fire extinguishers, and preserve CCTV footage for a minimum of 45 days. Tourists have been strictly advised against consuming drugs or alcohol at resorts and homestays.
In case of emergencies, tourists and property owners have been asked to contact the 24x7 helpline numbers: 08272-221077, 08272-221099, 94808-04900 and 08272-228330.
