Kodagu faces record high temperatures above 38 degrees celsius, rain relief expected on May 5

Madikeri: In an alarming development, Kodagu, the picturesque hilly district of Karnataka, is grappling with an intense hot temperature. Residents of the district are enduring scorching temperatures, with the mercury soaring above 38 degrees Celsius a couple of days back, marking an unprecedented high for the district in recent memory.


Local residents underscore the severity of the situation, highlighting that this is the first instance in several years that Kodagu has witnessed such extreme temperatures, indicating a worrying trend in the district's climate patterns.


According to data released by the weather department, the period from 8:30 a.m. on April 29 to 8:30 a.m. on April 30 saw the maximum temperature soar to a staggering 38.6 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature at 23.5 degrees Celsius.



Rain on May 5:


In a glimmer of hope amidst the sweltering conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting relief in the form of rainfall for Kodagu district. According to IMD officials, light to moderate rain is expected to grace the district on May 5. 


“A  Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur over some parts of Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts on May 5,” IMD stated in a weather update issued on 30 April.
