Madikeri: In a shocking incident of wildlife crime, an Indian Bison (Gaur) was hunted and 539 kg of its meat seized by forest department officials in Kodagu district, Karnataka.
The arrest of one individual, Haris (42), a resident of Yemmemadu near Napoklu, has been made in connection with the case, while another accused, identified as Musa, managed to escape.
The incident occurred at Nandimotte near Madapura in Kodagu district. Acting on a tip-off, the forest department officials from the Madikeri Zone conducted a raid, leading to the apprehension of Haris. However, despite efforts by the officials, Musa evaded capture.
The forest department's swift action came after they received information about illegal activities in the area, prompting them to launch an investigation. The officials, on late Monday night, chased the vehicle carrying the illegally hunted animal and managed to apprehend Haris.
