Gonikoppa Bypass Road Opens After ₹48 Lakh Development Work
Gonikoppa: The much-awaited upgradation of the Gonikoppa bypass road in Kodagu was completed and the improved stretch was opened for public use on Friday, October 2, with the road expected to help ease traffic congestion on the main Gonikoppa town roads.
Virajpet MLA and Chief Minister’s Political Secretary A.S. Ponnanna inaugurated the upgraded road. The improvement of the bypass was a long-standing demand of residents in the town.
The road works were completed at a cost of ₹48 lakh through a special grant, Ponnanna said after inaugurating the stretch. Speaking to reporters, Ponnanna said the bypass witnesses considerable vehicular movement and its development would facilitate smoother traffic movement while also benefiting local businesses.
“As part of the upgradation, a 150-metre stretch of the road has been concreted. Road shoulders have also been provided on both sides of the stretch to facilitate smoother movement of vehicles,” he added.
The upgraded bypass is expected to provide motorists with an alternative route and reduce the pressure on the main road, particularly during peak hours. Gonikoppa is an important commercial centre in southern Kodagu and witnesses regular movement of vehicles from different parts of the district and also from Mysuru, Bengaluru and Kerala.
