Somwarpet: Kodagu district police have detained a man in connection with a chain-snatching case reported from Kallalli, a village located along the Kodagu border. The incident occurred on 23 October, when a woman had her gold chain forcibly taken by a man riding a motorcycle.

According to the police, the suspect has been identified as Adarsh, a resident of Dodda Tholur in Somwarpet taluk, falling under the Tholur Shettalli gram panchayat. The victim, is of Kallalli, was walking near her home when the rider stopped to seek directions to Mallalli waterfalls. Moments later, he allegedly grabbed her 25-gram gold chain and sped away towards Tambalageri Road.

Police teams inspected the location and reviewed CCTV footage from Bisile and Changadahalli, which helped them trace the suspect. Officers said Adarsh, who had been employed as a food delivery worker in Mangaluru, is believed to have committed the theft during a visit to his native village.

Further investigation revealed that the stolen ornament had been pledged at a jewellery shop in Hassan. Police have recovered the chain and are conducting additional enquiries.
