Madikeri: Kodagu police have cracked a daring burglary at their very own police quarters — where not one, but eight houses were looted in a single night.

The theft, reported on June 17, had embarrassed the police department, with criminals targeting the supposedly “safest” residential block in Madikeri city. After nearly two months of relentless pursuit, police finally netted two of the culprits — Suresh Sengar (23) and Manish Bhagel (27), both from Madhya Pradesh. Two more members of the gang are still on the run.

According to Kodagu SP K Ramarajan, a special team was formed to crack the case. What followed was nothing short of a thriller — officers tracked the gang across Hassan, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh, travelling over 700 km and scanning through a staggering 500 CCTV cameras.

The chase ended on August 17, when the accused were finally nabbed in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. The haul from the burglars included ₹50,480 in cash, nine mobile phones, an iron rod, a bolt cutter, and other stolen goods.

Manish alone has over 25 cases registered against him in various police stations across India. Police say the hunt is still on for the remaining two gang members, who are believed to be hiding in Madhya Pradesh.
