Madikeri: All three segments of the Mysuru–Madikeri stretch of National Highway-275 have a revised completion deadline of April 2027, according to National Highway Authority of India(NHAI).

Though the ₹4,130-crore greenfield corridor was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2023, actual construction had been delayed due to protracted land acquisition issues. With those hurdles now being addressed, work has finally begun on the ground.

The project is being executed in three packages, according to a data tabled in the Lok Sabha on July 31, accessed by The Kodagu Express. Package III spans 24.10 km with ₹884 crore sanctioned and ₹347 crore spent so far. Package IV is 26.55 km long, with ₹1,063 crore sanctioned and ₹162 crore utilised. The third leg, Package V, covers 18.98 km and has seen ₹350 crore spent out of the sanctioned ₹1,273 crore.

The highway is part of a 92-km greenfield corridor aimed at easing the growing vehicular pressure on the Bengaluru–Mysuru–Madikeri route. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said the new highway will significantly cut travel time between Bengaluru and Kushalnagar, benefitting those travelling further west to Madikeri and Mangaluru.

A senior NHAI official said the realigned highway will begin near Guddehosur in Kushalnagar and terminate close to Srirangapatna, where it will link seamlessly with the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway (NH-275). “This alignment is designed to ensure minimal disruption to Mysuru city, effectively diverting heavy traffic away from urban roads,” the official said.

The corridor is expected to decongest Mysuru city and ease traffic for vehicles heading to Hunsur, Periyapatna, Madikeri and even parts of Kerala via Kodagu. “People travelling from Bengaluru towards Kodagu, Mangaluru, or Kerala will no longer need to enter Mysuru city. The new highway will provide a more efficient and safer route, especially during weekends and holidays when traffic typically spikes,” the official added.

Delays in construction were largely due to compensation disputes, lack of landowner documentation, and pending litigation on several parcels. With work now underway, NHAI is pushing to keep the April 2027 deadline.
