Madikeri: After Kodagu Ekikarana Ranga members raised concerns about the alleged illegal felling of thousands of trees in the Padinalkunadu Reserve Forest area near the Talacauvery Sanctuary in Kodagu district, Speaking to The Kodagu Express, Karnataka Minister for Forest, Ecology, and Environment Eshwar B. Khandre said that he would send a team of officials to investigate the incident.
In an exclusive interview with The Kodagu Express, Khandre said, "A FIR has been registered regarding the case, and local officials are already investigating. However, I have instructed officials to send senior officers to conduct a thorough investigation and prepare a report within three days."
The Mundrote Forest Range, where the illegal activity occurred, is known for its diverse flora, boasting over 6,000 species of trees and plants, according to reports. However, encroachers have allegedly cleared more than five acres of reserve forest land, an act that could have serious ecological repercussions.
Expressing concern over the incident, members of the Kodagu Ekikarana Ranga forum suspect the involvement of foresters in the illegal activity. They have filed a complaint with Ajjikuttira S Ponnanna, legal advisor to the Chief Minister of Karnataka and Virajpet MLA, seeking action against those responsible.
