New Delhi: On January 20, the Delhi police arrested a 24-year-old B.Tech. graduate hailing from Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. The individual was taken into custody for producing the widely circulated deep fake video featuring Rashmika Mandana, the actor from Kodagu.

According to reports, Eemani Naveen, the accused who was employed as a video editor and social media manager working from home, informed the police that he crafted the video with the intention of boosting followers on an Instagram channel dedicated to the Bollywood actor.

The apprehension occurred approximately two months following the registration of an FIR in the case. Hemant Tiwari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) in the Special Cell of Delhi Police, reported that the IFSO unit scrutinized over 500 social media accounts during the investigation.

In the course of the interrogation, Naveen revealed that he managed three social media pages dedicated to three different actresses, including Ms. Mandanna, whom he was fan. However, the other two pages boasted over a lakh followers, whereas Ms. Mandanna's page only had 90,000. In an attempt to boost the follower count, he uploaded the deepfake video, police stated.
