Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Muzrai and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy cancelled their scheduled visit to Talacauvery on Friday owing to unfavourable weather conditions in Bengaluru, which made helicopter travel difficult.

The two senior ministers were expected to take part in the sacred Cauvery Theerthodbhava celebrations at Talacauvery, the birthplace of River Cauvery in Kodagu district. The annual ritual marks the emergence of the holy spring and draws thousands of devotees from across the state and neighbouring regions.

Officials said that poor visibility in and around Bengaluru affected flight operations, forcing the ministers to call off their plan at the last moment.

Meanwhile, thousands of devotees thronged Talacauvery to witness the Theerthodbhava amid tight security and traditional rituals. The presiding deity, Goddess Cauvery, will manifest as the sacred spring, or Theertharoopini, at 1:44 p.m.
