Madikeri: Coffee prices in Kodagu, Karnataka, have witnessed a surge, offering a glimmer of hope to local growers grappling with reduced yields and escalating production costs.​

As of Thursday, April 17, 2025, the prevailing market rates in Karnataka according to Karnataka Planters Association stand as follows:​

Arabica Parchment: ₹26,400 – ₹27,100 per 50 kg

Arabica Cherry: ₹15,350 – ₹17,100 per 50 kg

Robusta Parchment: ₹22,200 – ₹22,700 per 50 kg

Robusta Cherry: ₹12,150 – ₹13,100 per 50 kg

Black Pepper: ₹730 per kg​

The price escalation is attributed to a global supply crunch, primarily due to severe crop losses in major coffee-producing countries like Brazil and Vietnam. This international shortfall has intensified demand for Indian coffee, particularly from regions like Kodagu, Chikamagalauru, Hassan, known for its premium Arabica and robust Robusta varieties. ​

Despite the favorable market rates, Kodagu's coffee growers face challenges. Erratic weather patterns have led to a 30–50% decline in yields across several plantations. While the current price surge offers temporary relief, industry experts caution that without strategic investments in sustainable farming practices and infrastructure, the long-term viability of coffee cultivation in Kodagu remains uncertain. As global market dynamics continue to evolve, stakeholders emphasize the need for proactive measures to safeguard the future of India's coffee heartland.​
