MADIKERI: According to the latest updates from Karnataka Planters Association for May 14, 2025, Arabica Parchment was priced between ₹26,200 and ₹27,200 per 50 kg, while Arabica Cherry fetched ₹14,650 to ₹16,250 per 50 kg. Robusta Parchment was priced at ₹20,700 to ₹22,000, and Robusta Cherry ranged from ₹11,400 to ₹12,200 per 50 kg. Meanwhile, black pepper maintained a price of ₹670 per kg in the local markets.
Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan remain the primary coffee-growing districts in Karnataka, contributing over 70% of the state’s total coffee output. Kodagu alone accounts for around 40% of India’s coffee production, with estates spread across regions such as Madikeri, Virajpet, and Somwarpet.
Chikkamagaluru, often referred to as the birthplace of Indian coffee, and Hassan, known for its high-altitude plantations, also play a crucial role in the national coffee economy. Farmers across these districts have been closely monitoring market prices as they prepare for the upcoming harvest season.
At the national level, India is the seventh-largest coffee producer in the world, with over 3.5 lakh tonnes of annual production, predominantly from Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Arabica and Robusta varieties are cultivated across the Western Ghats, with Robusta making up the majority share. India’s coffee is mostly exported, with key markets including Italy, Germany, and Russia.
The steady pricing seen today is likely to offer some short-term relief to growers, especially amid fluctuating input costs and erratic rainfall patterns that have impacted yields in recent years. Pepper, a significant intercrop in coffee estates, also continues to fetch good returns, helping bolster estate incomes.
