BENGALURU/MADIKERI: The Karnataka Planters’ Association (KPA) has released the latest prices for coffee across major categories for Tuesday, April 29, 2025. These rates serve as a benchmark for coffee growers and traders in Karnataka’s key plantation belts including Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan.

According to the update, Arabica Parchment is trading between ₹27,500 and ₹29,000 per 50 kg bag. Arabica Cherry is priced between ₹15,500 and ₹17,250. Robusta Parchment stands at ₹22,200 to ₹23,000, while Robusta Cherry is fetching ₹12,150 to ₹13,100. Meanwhile, black pepper is trading at ₹730 per kg in the Karnataka market.

Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan districts are the major coffee-producing regions in Karnataka, contributing over 70% of India’s total coffee output. Kodagu alone accounts for more than one-third of the country’s coffee production, primarily Robusta.

Chikkamagaluru, known as the birthplace of coffee in India, continues to produce significant quantities of both Arabica and Robusta, with a strong presence of smallholder farmers.

Hassan, while slightly smaller in terms of acreage, is noted for its high-quality Arabica beans grown in the cool hilly terrain. The 2024–25 harvest season has seen steady yields, with favourable rainfall supporting healthy flowering and berry development across these districts.

In addition to coffee, Karnataka is also a leading producer of black pepper, especially in the Western Ghats region. Pepper is often intercropped with coffee, particularly in Kodagu and parts of Chikkamagaluru, where the shade-grown environment is ideal for the spice. Karnataka contributes nearly 45% of India’s total black pepper production, making it a crucial state in the domestic spice trade. The current market rate of ₹730 per kg reflects stable demand and quality produce entering markets post-harvest.
