Check Coffee and Pepper Prices for 1 April in Karnataka, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan

The key growing regions include Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan, where both Arabica and Robusta varieties are cultivated.

Madikeri, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan: Coffee and pepper prices in Karnataka's major coffee-growing districts remained largely stable on Tuesday, reflecting steady market trends.

According to Karnataka Planters Association(KPA) for Robusta Parchment, prices ranged between ₹22,200 and ₹22,500 per 50 kg, while Robusta Cherry was priced between ₹12,150 and ₹13,100 per 50 kg. In the Arabica segment, Arabica Parchment was quoted at ₹26,300 to ₹27,000 per 50 kg, and Arabica Cherry ranged from ₹15,200 to ₹17,000 per 50 kg. Meanwhile, black pepper prices are at ₹730 per kg.

Coffee production in Karnataka and Kodagu

Karnataka continues to be India's leading coffee-producing state, accounting for over 70% of the country's total coffee output. The key growing regions include Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan, where both Arabica and Robusta varieties are cultivated. The state benefits from a favourable climate, high-altitude plantations, and traditional coffee farming practices, ensuring high-quality production.

Kodagu, often called the coffee capital of India, contributes nearly 40% of Karnataka’s coffee production. The district's coffee estates, intercropped with pepper and other spices, form the backbone of its economy. However, challenges such as erratic weather patterns, labour shortages, and fluctuating global coffee prices continue to impact growers in the region.
