Madikeri: The 119th birth anniversary of General K.S. Thimayya was commemorated with tributes and reflections on his remarkable military career in an event organised by the Kodagu district administration on Monday.

Ajjinikanda Mahesh Nachaiah, president of the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, highlighted the importance of educating students about the struggles and achievements of General Thimayya. “It is essential for the younger generation to learn about the extraordinary courage and valour displayed by Gen. Thimayya throughout his military service,” he said.

He stressed that students must remember the sacrifices made by martyrs who laid down their lives for the country. “There was none to match the military brilliance and bravery of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa and General Thimayya,” Nachaiah added, urging greater awareness of their contributions.

The event, held at the General Thimayya Memorial Museum at Sunny Side in Madikeri—his birthplace—was inaugurated by Vinayak Narwade, Assistant Commissioner of Madikeri. Narwade paid floral tributes to the legendary general and described his life as an enduring inspiration.

A.S. Sreesha, a 9th standard student from the government primary school at Suntikoppa, delivered a speech on General Thimayya’s military accomplishments. The commemoration also featured cultural performances and patriotic songs, celebrating the legacy of one of India’s most distinguished military leaders.
