Madikeri: An advanced MRI scanning unit was inaugurated at the teaching hospital of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences in Madikeri on Sunday, marking a significant milestone for healthcare in the district. The facility was launched by the Minister for Medical Education, Sharan Prakash Patil, with Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda and Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna in attendance.
The introduction of this state-of-the-art MRI unit fulfils a long-standing demand of the people of Kodagu. Previously, patients in need of MRI scans were forced to travel to Mysuru, Bengaluru, or Mangaluru, as no such diagnostic facilities were available in any government or private medical centres within Kodagu district.
With the opening of the MRI scanning unit, local residents will now have access to essential diagnostic services within the district. The facility is housed at the teaching hospital of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences, and it is expected to reduce the travel burden on patients while ensuring timely and efficient medical treatment.
An official statement on Sunday noted that this newly commissioned MRI unit will not only ease access to scanning services but also enable doctors to provide quicker and more accurate treatments based on the diagnostic reports. The State government’s initiative is seen as a crucial step in improving healthcare infrastructure in Kodagu, benefitting both the local population and surrounding areas.
