Ponnampet: Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna has directed Forest Department officials to take steps to capture a tiger that has been sighted in Besagur, triggering concern among residents of the village and surrounding areas.
The tiger’s movement in the region over the past few days has heightened fear, particularly after several incidents of cattle lifting were reported. Villagers said at least eight cattle have been killed in the last 15 days, including three on Sunday night. Residents have urged authorities to act swiftly, citing growing anxiety among farmers and families living close to forest fringes.
Speaking to The Kodagu Express, Ponnanna said he had issued clear directions to forest officials to capture the animal at the earliest. “I have asked the Chief Conservator of Forests and the Deputy Conservator of Forests to visit the spot immediately and assess the situation. I will also ensure that I personally visit the affected area within the next two to three days,” he said.
A resident of Besagur said the tiger had been frequently sighted in the vicinity, forcing villagers to remain on high alert. “The tiger has been moving around Besagur for the past few days. It has killed eight cattle in the last fifteen days, including three last night. We are all worried and are being extremely cautious while moving around,” the resident said.
