A recent visit to Coorg turned into a harrowing experience for a couple from Pune, but thanks to the kindness of strangers, it ended on a note of gratitude.
On 27 November 2024, the couple had planned to visit the Nisargadhama Forest Park. After spending an hour inside the park, they reached the last spot, where they took some pictures of the deer. Suddenly, the husband complained of a twitching sensation in his hand, and his wife realized he was having a seizure.
The wife quickly administered the emergency medication spray, but the seizure persisted. That's when a kind stranger, an elderly gentleman, noticed their distress and rushed to their aid. He and his wife helped the couple, removing the husband's shoes and turning his body onto its side.
As the situation unfolded, more people gathered to help, including the park staff and tourists. Someone quickly fetched water, sweet, chocolate, orange as the couple was unsure if the husband's blood sugar levels had dropped. The staff arrived with a bike, and people took turns helping to care for the husband, who was unconscious for half an hour.
A young couple, who were tourists, approached and called for an ambulance. The driver, who had been hired by the couple, was also summoned. The ambulance arrived promptly, and the staff brought a stretcher to carry the husband to the ambulance.
The challenge of carrying the husband for about 1 km was overcome thanks to the collective efforts of the staff, tourists, and locals. Around 12 people took turns carrying the stretcher, ensuring the husband received the care he needed.
The couple was eventually taken to Balaji hospital, where the husband was treated and discharged. The wife has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people of Coorg, who came forward to help them in their time of need.
"The response from everyone involved was truly exceptional," she said. "The staff at Nisargadhama Forest Park demonstrated outstanding professionalism and care, while the ambulance driver provided invaluable assistance. Our hired driver also went above and beyond to support us throughout the ordeal. Moreover, the kindness and compassion shown by the tourists, particularly the elderly couple and the young couple who promptly called for the ambulance, was truly heartwarming. We are forever grateful to the people of Coorg, who turned strangers into heroes. We wish we could thank each one of them personally."
