Madikeri: Kodagu district authorities have announced a two-day holiday for all primary and pre-university institutions, including anganwadis, on May 29 and 30, following continuous rainfall across the region.

Educational institutions were initially scheduled to reopen after the summer break on these dates. However, due to the prevailing inclement weather and concerns over student safety, officials have decided to postpone the reopening. Schools have been directed to make up for the lost instructional days by conducting classes on upcoming holidays.

Despite the declaration of holidays for schools, the Department of Public Instruction clarified that the SSLC Supplementary Examination (Exam 2) will go ahead as per the existing timetable. Students appearing for the exam have been advised to follow all necessary precautions while commuting.

In a related development, the Forest Department has announced the temporary closure of the Dubare Elephant Camp, one of the region’s popular tourist spots. The decision has been taken in view of persistent rains and the potential risk to visitors. The camp will remain shut until further notice, officials stated.
