Pandi Curry gets dearer as pork price soars to Rs 340/kg in Kodagu

Virajpet: In a move that will affect Pandi(Pork) Curry lovers in Kodagu, the price of pork has been increased to Rs 340 per kilogram in Virajpet and Ponnampet taluks, following a decision made by pork shop owners and meat suppliers.

A recent advertisement from meat suppliers in Kodagu announces a pork price hike to Rs 340 starting January 31, 2024, citing the primary reason as an increase in meat prices by piggeries.

Previously priced at Rs 300 per kilogram, the recent increase is explained by piggery owners, attributing it to a constrained supply, along with elevated costs for fuel, feed, and other necessities in piggery farming.

The surge in pork prices is expected to impact the catering and food industries, leading to potential increases in food order rates that could directly influence weddings and other functions in Kodagu.

In Kodagu, Pandi Curry is a renowned delicacy served at various events, including weddings, engagement ceremonies, gatherings at Ainmanes (ancestral homes), naming ceremonies, and other parties.

In Dakshina Kannada district, the price of pork has recently risen from Rs 280 to Rs 340 per kilogram.
