Residents of Kodagu district are facing significant disappointment as the Union budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman fails to address many of their key expectations. Despite various proposals and hopes, the budget lacks substantial focus on the district's needs.
In terms of agricultural grants, the budget has increased the allocation to ₹5,000 crore. This change brings a glimmer of hope, particularly for coffee cultivation, which is expected to benefit more compared to last year's ₹230 crore allocation and ₹62 crore in subsidies. However, there are no specific allocations or special provisions for coffee.
The district has long awaited improvements in infrastructure, such as an airport, but these needs remain unmet. The budget does not provide adequate funding, leading to ongoing frustration.
For the tourism sector, there are no new grants or sufficient support for existing initiatives. The budget fails to offer any special consideration for enhancing tourism in the district.
Following the recent election victory of Kodagu-Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, there were high hopes for special grants and increased attention to Kodagu. Unfortunately, these hopes have not materialized, and the lack of beneficial proposals is disheartening.
