Madikeri: A soldier from Kodagu district, Karnataka, tragically lost his life after succumbing to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident near a forward post in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred last Tuesday when the vehicle fell into a gorge. The soldier, 28-year-old Deevin Palangoti, passed away despite medical efforts.

Deevin's death marks the fourth martyrdom from Karnataka in the accident. A resident of Siddapur Alur in Kodagu, Deevin had served in the Indian Army for a decade. Divin, the critically injured soldier, was undergoing treatment at a military hospital in Udhampur. He was the only son of Jaya and the late Prakash. His untimely demise comes just months before his planned wedding in January 2025, for which the family had been preparing.

After the accident, Deevin’s mother, Jaya, traveled to Srinagar, where he was undergoing treatment. Reports indicated that he had sustained critical injuries to multiple organs.

Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda, who closely monitored the soldier's condition, expressed his sorrow. "Deevin made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. We stand firmly with the grieving family during this difficult time," he said. The MLA further emphasised that Deevin's dedication and sacrifice would inspire young people to serve the nation.

Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer K.C. Wadiyar also conveyed his condolences. "I am deeply shocked by the untimely passing of Deevin. His sacrifice for the nation will never be forgotten. We stand in solidarity with his family in this hour of grief."
