Bollumaad: In an address at the 'Bhel Namme’ (Paddy Field Festival) organized by the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, Kodagu District In-Charge Minister N.S. Boseraju underscored the importance of sustaining paddy cultivation in Kodagu also known as Coorg.
The festival, held in Bollumaad village, marks a significant effort to promote agricultural practices in the region by the Academy.
“Paddy is a crucial food crop,” said Boseraju during the inauguration. “Farmers should continue cultivating paddy in Kodagu. This practice is vital not only for sustaining local agriculture but also for improving the groundwater levels in the region.”
The festival is part of a broader initiative by the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy to highlight and support the agricultural, cultural, and literary traditions of the Kodava community. By hosting events like the Paddy Field Festival, we aim to foster a renewed interest in paddy cultivation and preserve our cultural heritage,” he said.
Nachaiah also announced that similar initiatives would be rolled out across various locations in Kodagu in the coming days, aiming to protect and promote agriculture, culture, and the Kodava language.
