Karnataka continues to be the largest coffee-producing state in the country, contributing over 70% of India’s total coffee output. The three key districts—Kodagu(Coorg), Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan—play a pivotal role in this production landscape.
Kodagu, the largest coffee-producing district in India, accounts for nearly 40% of the nation’s coffee output. Arabica and Robusta varieties are cultivated extensively in the region’s shaded plantations. Chikkamagaluru, often regarded as the birthplace of Indian coffee, follows closely and is renowned for its high-quality Arabica beans. Hassan district also contributes significantly to the state’s overall production, with a good mix of both Arabica and Robusta coffees grown in the area.

Nationally, India produces around 3.5 to 3.7 lakh metric tonnes of coffee annually, with a dominant share of Robusta varieties. Coffee cultivation in India is largely concentrated in the southern states, with Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu being the primary producers. Over 70% of India’s coffee is exported to international markets, including Europe and Russia.
