Deadline Extended for Kodagu Farmers to Enrol Under Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme

The scheme covers the district’s major perennial crops — pepper and arecanut — across all taluks.

Madikeri: The deadline for farmers in Kodagu district to enrol under the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme for the 2026-27 kharif season has been extended to August 17.

The scheme covers the district’s major perennial crops — pepper and arecanut — across all taluks. The original deadline for enrolment and payment of the prescribed crop insurance premium was July 31.

According to an order issued by the Karnataka government on August 7, the deadline has now been extended by over two weeks, providing farmers additional time to register under the scheme.

The Deputy Director of Horticulture, Kodagu, has appealed to eligible farmers to make use of the extended deadline and enrol under the scheme within the stipulated period.

Farmers can pay the prescribed premium and complete the enrolment process through nearby banks, Grama One centres at the gram panchayat level, and Common Service Centres (CSCs).

The weather-based crop insurance scheme is intended to provide financial protection to farmers against crop losses caused by adverse weather conditions. With pepper and arecanut being among Kodagu’s important plantation crops, officials have urged farmers to take advantage of the extended registration window.
