Bengaluru: A light-hearted Instagram reel by social media influencer, comedian, and actor Danish Sait has gone viral, drawing particular attention from the Kodava community in Kodagu. The reel, titled “conversations with my Kodava Friends”, features Sait attempting humorous “conversation” in Kodava language. He captioned it: “Neen dadda? 😄 Send it to your friends from Coorg!”
Sait, a Bengaluru-based entertainer known for his work in Kannada cinema, regularly creates comedy sketches, but this one has struck a special chord in Kodagu. Many viewers have commented on how refreshing it was to hear the Kodava language and the Valaga used in the video.
The reel also drew reactions from Kodagu’s well-known film personalities. Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who recently gained recognition for his role in Kantara: Chapter 1, responded with a string of laughing emojis: “🤣🤣”.
Kodagu-born actress Shubra Aiyappa Sivappa wrote, “HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA❤️❤️❤️!!!! Approved by a fully entertained kodava 🙌🏻🙌🏻”, further amplifying the video’s popularity.
While many viewers may not know Sait’s deeper connection to Kodagu, an earlier profile in Deccan Herald revealed that he studied at a boarding school in Coorg, widely reported to be Coorg Public School (COPS) in Gonikoppa.
In the interview, Sait fondly recalled his school days and spoke at length about Professor M.D. Nanjunda, a key figure in his formative years. “I grew up without my dad, but he was like a father figure to me. He’s an unbelievable guy. Whatever I am today, the credit goes to him. Apart from being an incredible teacher, he was a compelling storyteller. He wasn’t like a regular teacher who would just teach a subject and go. He, in fact, made me realise I won’t be happy if I take up engineering or medicine. He understood my personality and was the wind beneath my wings,” he said.
