Madikeri: Coffee growers in Kodagu district have received some respite as coffee prices have seen an upward trend, providing relief from the rising costs of cultivation and maintenance.

As of 27 January 2025, the prices for various coffee varieties in Kodagu (Coorg) are as follows:

Robusta Cherry EP: 444(spot lift)

Robusta Fruit: ₹98 per kg(spot lift)

Arabica Cherry: ₹12,800 per bag

The increase in prices has particularly benefited growers of Robusta and Arabica, two of the most cultivated varieties in Kodagu. Many farmers believe that this price surge could help mitigate some of the financial strain caused by input costs, including fertilisers, labour, and transportation.

Kodagu, known as the coffee capital of Karnataka, accounts for a significant share of India’s coffee production. With the coffee season in full swing, all eyes are on the market to see if this positive trend continues.

Kodagu, along with Chikkamagaluru and Hassan, forms the backbone of Karnataka’s coffee industry, contributing nearly 70% of India’s total coffee production. Renowned for its ideal growing conditions—fertile soil, high-altitude plantations, and favourable climate—the region is a hub for quality coffee cultivation. While Arabica is cherished for its smooth flavour, Robusta, known for its higher caffeine content, dominates the instant coffee market.
