Coffee Prices in Kodagu, Karnataka: Check Latest Rates for Robusta and Arabica

Madikeri: Kodagu, Karnataka’s coffee heartland, saw stable coffee prices on April 3, 2025. The price of Robusta Cherry EP stood at 473(spot lift), while Arabica Cherry was priced at ₹16,000 per bag.

Karnataka’s coffee production

Karnataka is India’s largest coffee-producing state, accounting for nearly 70% of the country’s total output. The state’s coffee cultivation is concentrated in three districts—Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan—where the combination of high-altitude plantations, ample rainfall, and rich soil makes it ideal for growing both Arabica and Robusta varieties.

Kodagu: The backbone of Indian coffee

Kodagu alone contributes over 40% of Karnataka’s coffee production, making it the leading coffee-producing district in India. The district’s estates predominantly cultivate Robusta, known for its bold flavour and high yield, while Arabica, which requires cooler temperatures and greater care, is also grown in smaller quantities.

Coffee cultivation in Kodagu is largely undertaken in shade-grown conditions, ensuring ecological sustainability and biodiversity conservation. The region is home to thousands of small and medium-scale growers who depend on coffee as their primary source of income. Fluctuations in international coffee prices, labour costs, and climate-related challenges like unseasonal rainfall often impact their earnings.

Growers are closely monitoring price trends, hoping for a favourable market. The current pricing suggests stable demand, though fluctuations may occur based on global coffee production and export conditions.

As coffee remains a key component of Kodagu’s economy, stakeholders continue to seek better policies, including minimum support prices, labour reforms, and incentives for sustainable farming practices, to ensure long-term viability for coffee growers.
