Karnataka remains India's largest coffee-producing state, contributing over 70% of the country’s total output. Kodagu, often called the ‘coffee cup of India,’ plays a crucial role, accounting for nearly 40% of Karnataka’s coffee yield. Chikkamagaluru and Hassan are also key coffee-growing regions.
The state primarily cultivates two coffee varieties: Robusta and Arabica. Robusta, valued for its higher yield and disease resistance, is extensively grown in Kodagu, while Chikkamagaluru is known for its premium Arabica coffee. Karnataka’s coffee is predominantly exported to international markets, including Europe and the United States, making it a significant contributor to the state’s economy.
