17-year-old girl ends life after facing sexual assault in Kodagu

Madikeri: A 17-year-old girl reportedly ended her life after she was sexually assaulted by a man in Kodagu district, according to police.

According to a report in DH, at first, her father lodged a complaint with the police, stating that his daughter had taken her own life due to unbearable stomach pain. Subsequently, the police had filed a report categorizing the incident as an 'unnatural death.' However, a message, believed to be written by the victim after experiencing sexual assault, circulated on social media following her demise.

Subsequent to this, on Tuesday, the child protection unit members from Kodagu district visited the victim's residence, engaging in a conversation with the family to encourage them to share the truth.

The DH report states that later, the girl's father informed the team about the alleged sexual assault on her, which drove her to end her life. The police later registered a fresh case under POCSO Act. Further investigation is going on.
